Nick Woltemade had a remarkable U21 Euros last summer, but he had to wait for his first Germany goal until tonight. After his goal helped Die Nationalmannschaft to a victory in Belfast, the Newcastle United striker expressed his delight.
“It was very important for me to score my first international goal today,” said Woltemade. “Personally, I’m not happy so far with my performances for Germany. It’s actually fitting that I scored with my shoulder. It was not a good game, but you have to win them, too.
“We got the 3 points, so I’m happy. With such a great atmosphere, winning is not a given. We’re working a lot on set pieces with different variants. I’m glad it worked out today.”
Woltemade didn’t have the same issues at his club. The 23-year-old already scored four goals in his first five starts for the Magpies.
