Borussia Dortmund are keen to extend Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract beyond 2027, but the centre-back has so far been stalling on a new deal, describing it as “a very important decision for my career.”

According to Sport Bild, BVB are giving Schlotterbeck some time, but have set a deadline for clarity on whether he will extend his contract, with the club reportedly willing to wait until spring.

Both the management and Schlotterbeck’s teammates reportedly remain optimistic about an extension, with BVB offering him a new deal until 2030 and the opportunity to become captain if he signs.

However, Dortmund face significant competition, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool all said to be monitoring the defender’s situation.

Even if Schlotterbeck decides against an extension, it’s not out of the question that Dortmund will let him play out the final year of his contract, given his importance to the team.
