After being named in VfB Stuttgart’s starting lineup for their midweek DFB-Pokal win over Mainz, Tiago Tomás had to withdraw from the warm-up due to discomfort.

Fortunately for Stuttgart, the injury isn’t serious, but it remains unclear whether the Portuguese attacker will be fit for Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to RB Leipzig.

“He had an MRI, which showed a minor issue, but nothing structural. It will therefore depend on how he feels pain-wise,” Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß said at his pre-match press conference.

“Yesterday he went for a light run, which was fine. Today we need to see if he can handle a higher workload, and then we’ll decide. It’s completely open.”

The Stuttgart boss also revealed that Dan-Axel Zagadou, who made his first start of the season in last week’s 2–1 Bundesliga win over Mainz, is expected to miss Saturday’s match.

“Daxo has shown a bit of a reaction in the adductor area. I assume he won’t be ready by Saturday,” Hoeneß added.

“It’s more a case of overuse, nothing structural. But we’ll check it again today.”
