Alex Grimaldo appeared to struggle physically towards the end of Bayer Leverkusen’s 4–2 DFB-Pokal extra-time win over Paderborn on Tuesday.

However, as Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand stressed ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Bayern Munich, the Spaniard is fit to feature this weekend.

“He was just tired. I think his legs feel better today,” the Danish coach said with a smile.

Meanwhile, Malik Tillman could potentially return to the squad depending on Friday’s training session.

“Tillman will train with us today. Then we’ll see,” Hjulmand said.

He also confirmed that Lucas Vázquez remains sidelined, along with Ezequiel Fernández, Exequiel Palacios, Nathan Tella and Axel Tape.

Regarding Tape, who suffered a hamstring injury in early October, Hjulmand offered a positive update:

“He’s further along than expected. Next week, he’ll return to the pitch for rehabilitation training. I believe we’ll have him back after the international break.”
