RB Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner has had an excellent start to the season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 11 matches across all competitions.
In an interview with Sport Bild, the Austrian international revealed that, having struggled to reach his top level for Leipzig previously, he actually considered leaving the club over the summer.
However, despite receiving “offers from good clubs,” Baumgartner decided to stay after holding talks with the sporting management.
“I gave it some thought and also had many conversations with Marcel Schäfer (Leipzig’s managing director for sport), Sebastian Schuppan (director of football), and later with the new coach (Ole Werner)” Baumgartner told Sport Bild.
“From those talks, I got the feeling that they had big plans for me and saw me in my favorite role. After that, it was clear to me that I would stay.
“There were offers from good clubs, but they were no longer an option for me.”
Baumgartner joined Leipzig from Hoffenheim in 2023 and still has three years left on his contract.
