Barcelona’s plan to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on a permanent basis has hit a snag.

Rashford has been in excellent form since joining the Blaugrana on loan, scoring six goals and adding half a dozen assists to boot.

Man Utd have given Barca a €20 million discount on the England international winger, but despite the Old Trafford side’s generosity, financial constraints may mean that a deal cannot be completed.

There is a buy-out clause in the player’s loan deal that means Barcelona have an option to buy him for just €29m – well below his €52.2m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).

This figure, though, is currently unaffordable to Barcelona, Fichajes reports.

Previously, it had also been reported that Rashford would have to accept a pay cut once again if he were to make the switch permanent. Given how much he appears to be enjoying life at the Catalan club, this would not be an enormous surprise, particularly with the latest indications that he would be “delighted” to stay at Barca.

The La Liga side, meanwhile, are prioritising contract renewals before addressing new signings.

“If the situation does not change, Marcus Rashford will have to return to Manchester United in the summer,” Fichajes claims, adding that a further reduction in transfer fee will be required for the deal to go ahead.

Rashford rumours building

Man Utd have put a €45m price on Rashford for other clubs, but interest is gathering due to his stellar performance.

PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all said to be interested in the player.

United, meanwhile, seem to have no desire to reintegrate the player back into Ruben Amorim’s project after he fell out with the manager in December 2024. Instead, they want to use the transfer fee to rebuild their side.
