Marc-Patrick Meister’s U17 side look for their first win in the World Cup when they face El Salvador on Monday. The draw with Colombia followed by a lacklustre display in another 1-1 scoreline against North Korea for the defending champions.

In both games, Germany scored first, but they failed to maintain their advantage. Hence, a win over El Salvador will be crucial to avoid sweating over the best third-placed teams table.

El Salvador stunned Colombia in their first-ever appearance as they salvaged a goalless draw on matchday two. North Korea, who beat one of the eight CONCACAF representatives in the opening round, already confirmed their progress from the group with four points. They’ve also just won the U17 Women’s World Cup for the fourth time in their history.

The first four groups of the U17 World Cup are finalized as Italy and Argentina became the first teams with perfect records. 17 more teams – South Africa, Japan, Portugal, Senegal, Croatia, Belgium, Egypt, Venzuela, Switzerland, South Korea, Brazil, Zambia, USA, Republic of Ireland, France, Canada, and Austria – are through to the Round of 32.

Having lost the first two matches in their group, Morocco set a new record for the biggest win in the competition on Sunday with a 16-0 victory over New Caledonia, who played the entire second-half with nine players because of red cards.

Borussia Dortmund’s striker Samuele Inacio (Italy) leads the scoring charts alongside René Mitongo (Belgium) and Vit Škrkoň (Czechia) with four goals each.

Team News

Bayern Munich’s winger Wisdom Mike scored Germany’s goal in his first start of the tournament against North Korea. Toni Langsteiner, who scored in the first minute against Colombia, has only played the first-half of the second match on Friday.
