Why Caicedo did not play vs Burnley – Maresca

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has provided an update on midfielder Moises Caicedo following the 2-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League.

The Blues climbed to second in the standings after a hard-fought win over the Clarets on the road. Caicedo started on the substitutes’ bench as Andrey Santos was preferred as the holding midfielder.

Santos produced a fantastic performance over the course of 90 minutes and made some crucial tackles and interceptions. In the end, Caicedo was not required on the pitch for the west London giants.

Speaking after the game, Maresca said that Caicedo won’t be an unused substitute again and praised Santos for filling the void left by the Ecuadorian, he said in his post-match presser:

“I won’t do it anymore, trust me! Andrey’s position is the position he played today. Usually with us he goes higher up because we have Moi but we needed to find a solution. Andrey did very good.”

Chelsea will now turn their attention to the Champions League. They are scheduled to host La Liga giants Barcelona on Tuesday night.
