During the summer, Bayern Munich made an attempt to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, but ultimately missed out to Liverpool in the race for the 22-year-old.
Wirtz was just one of many superstars to arrive at Anfield Road, with the Reds reportedly spending around €500 million to strengthen their squad
Despite the big investment, Liverpool have struggled this season, and Wirtz has found it difficult to meet expectations.
Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeness, however, does not blame Wirtz, arguing that the many individualists in Liverpool’s squad are hindering the German star.
“They spent €500 million and are having a catastrophic season. In my opinion, that’s because they only have superstars now. You only have chiefs and no workers,” Hoeness said at an event in Munich on Sunday evening (via Bild).
“I always say: in Liverpool, they’ll have to play with five balls soon, because the stars don’t want to give the ball away anymore.
“Poor Florian Wirtz, he doesn’t get the ball at all, because (Mohamed) Salah and (Dominik) Szoboszlai and what they’re all called want to play with their own ball,” added the Bayern boss.
