Currently sat in seventeenth place, SpVgg Greuther Fürth has reacted to its ongoing slump by dismissing coach Thomas Kleine.

The 2.Bundesliga side stated that Kleine, along with his two assistant coaches Milorad Pekovic and Marco Konrad, will no longer be in charge.

The 47-year-old coach failed to address Fürth’s defensive woes this season, who in 14 games conceded 37 goals.

He will be succeeded by Heiko Vogel, who most recently managed Swiss giants FC Basel until October 2023.

“We thank Thomas, Milorad, and Marco for their commitment. Last season, Thomas and the team managed to get us across the finish line during a difficult period.

“Unfortunately, this season we haven’t been able to eliminate recurring mistakes and secure the necessary points.

“Heiko brings a wealth of experience, both in professional football and in working with young talent.

“We are convinced that he, together with his coaching staff, can provide structure to the team and also promote the development,” explained sporting director Stephan Fürstner.
