After months of difficult negotiations, it appears Bayern Munich are making significant progress in their bid to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract beyond the summer of 2026.

According to BBC Sport, the two parties are now in advanced talks over a new deal, with Bayern optimistic of reaching an agreement after holding “positive discussions” with the 27-year-old in recent weeks.

While Bayern have been trying to extend his contract, Upamecano has been linked with several other European top clubs, including Real Madrid.

BBC’s report also states that Bayern will “remain in the market” for another centre-back even if the Frenchman signs an extension.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck have all been linked with the German champions.

With Kim Min-jae looking likely to leave Bayern at the end of the season, one of them could potentially arrive as his replacement.
