Inter head coach Cristian Chivu says that the ongoing debate surrounding Mohamed Salah and his recent comments about Liverpool are not his concern, but has warned that Arne Slot’s side will still ‘maintain a high level’ even if the Egyptian King is left out of the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match.

Inter host Liverpool in San Siro in the sixth round of Champions League league phase fixtures on Tuesday evening, the final round of Champions League matches this calendar year.

Reports in the UK suggest that star Liverpool forward Salah will be left at home for the Champions League match against Inter following his post-match comments over the weekend.

The Egyptian King, who has 250 Liverpool goals to his name and is the Premier League’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time, has been left out of Slot’s starting line-up for the last three matches, and was an unused substitute for two of them.

He went on to accuse the club of throwing him under the bus, describing the situation as ‘unacceptable’.

Chivu on Salah and Liverpool: ‘They have players who can replace him’

Chivu has since had an opportunity to weigh in on the matter during his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

“We all know what he represents for Liverpool and for the world of football,” Chivu told reporters on Monday (via TMW).

“It’s not my concern. I know that they have players who can replace him, and that Liverpool will therefore maintain a high level as they always have done throughout their history.

“We’re talking about teams, not individuals,” Chivu continued. “That is why we have to worry about what the group does, not about individuals. They have a lot of quality.”
