Maresca on Fofana’s eye injury

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has provided an update on Wesley Fofana‘s eye injury following the 2-1 Champions League loss to Atalanta on the road.

The Blues took an early lead against the Bergamo outfit but were unable to double their advantage before the break. Atalanta stepped up after the interval and ended up securing a terrific comeback victory.

Fofana came on as a half-time substitute to replace Trevoh Chalobah against the Serie A side, but he had to be replaced in the 77th minute after a freak injury to his right eye, which started to blur his vision.

Speaking after the game, Maresca revealed that the injury is quite bad, but he is hopeful that the Frenchman can recover in time to face Everton in the weekend Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “He had a problem with his eye. It’s quite bad. He struggled to see a little bit but hopefully he can be available for Saturday.”

Chelsea are winless in the last three league matches with just two points. They desperately need a victory on Saturday or they could drop further down the standings. The Blues are fifth at present.
