Heiko Vogel’s revitalised Fürth side once again displayed tremendous determination, coming from behind twice for the second week running. After overturning a 2-0 deficit to level, Denis Srbeny struck late to cancel out a third Hertha goal and secure a well-earned 3-3 draw.
Hertha dominated almost the entire first half, pinning Fürth deep in their own territory and carving out the game’s earliest openings. They nearly struck after ten minutes when Michael Cuisance’s clever close-range lob was hacked off the line by Maximilian Dietz.
The visitors thought they had broken through just before the half-hour mark, only for Fabian Reese’s composed finish to be ruled out for offside. Six minutes later, Reese finally found joy – Cuisance slid a tidy pass into the Hertha captain on the left edge of the box, and with far too much space on his favoured side, Reese buried a low shot across Timo Schlieck.
Hertha doubled their advantage three minutes later. Cuisance was the architect again, his deep free-kick picking out an unmarked Luca Schuler at the back post, who volleyed home to make it 2-0.
Fürth, out of nowhere, grabbed a lifeline three minutes before the break. Jannik Dehm’s cross was dummied cleverly by Felix Klaus, allowing Branimir Hrgota to collect inside the box and calmly finish past Tjark Ernst to pull the hosts back into the game.
The second half ignited almost instantly. Noel Futkeu fizzed a dangerous ball across the six-yard box with no green shirt arriving to convert, but Fürth did find their equaliser just before the hour mark. Hrgota turned provider, swinging in a cross for Klaus, who ghosted between two Hertha defenders and volleyed past Ernst to make it 2-2.
Hertha hit back just four minutes later. Michal Karbownik raced onto a long ball over the top and intelligently cut it back for Schuler, who held off his marker and swivelled to guide a superb finish past Schlieck for 3-2.
Still, Vogel’s Fürth remain a side with no quitting instinct. Nine minutes from time they levelled again, capitalising on Paul Seguin’s costly turnover in midfield. Hrgota slid in substitute Denis Srbeny, who scored on the rebound after Ernst had produced a strong initial stop.
Hertha pressed desperately in the seven minutes of added time, but Fürth’s back line held firm to claim a second straight point from a losing position. For Hertha, though, it marks another damaging night – dropping points to a bottom-three side for the second week in succession.
