The Mohamed Salah soap opera at Liverpool is set to continue, with Antoine Semenyo critical in shaping the attacker’s immediate future.

Salah is currently on AFCON duty with the Egypt national team but has not started any of Liverpool’s last four Premier League fixtures.

After a 3-3 draw with Leeds United, the 33-year-old spoke out. He criticised the management of Slot and claimed “someone wanted me out of the club”.

It was a comment that sparked massive interest over the player’s future. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in August that Salah was already planning to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2026, but going public with such scathing comments changed the equation.

The winger was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan, and speaking on Friday, Slot sought to play down the rift.

“We moved on. He was in the squad and was the first substitution I made [against Brighton]. Now he’s got AFCON and will play some big games so it’s only fair that all focus is on them,” the Dutchman said on Friday.

Salah targets Edwards

While the public feud between Salah and Liverpool has been put to one side, the issue of the player’s future certainly has not, FootballTransfers understands.

Sources have revealed that Salah learned of contact between the Reds and in-form Bournemouth winger Semenyo, and this was central to his comment intimating that “someone wanted me out”.

The individual that Salah was referring to was primarily Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

Semenyo can change everything

Liverpool are interested in Semenyo, but ideally want to move for him in the summer, which aligns with Bournemouth’s preference to sell at the end of the season.

As things stand, the plan remains for Salah to leave in the summer. However, the source added that the situation could shift if either Manchester City or Manchester United submit an offer for Semenyo in January. Such a move could force Liverpool’s hand into acting earlier than wanted.

Should that scenario unfold, the Salah situation could also change.
