Ruben Amorim has revealed that Manchester United are unlikely to do any business in the transfer window, and there have been ‘no conversations’ over new signings this month.
A stony-faced Amorim also warned that United could soon be dragged down the Premier League table despite sitting in sixth place ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leeds at Elland Road.
Asked if the possibility of securing Champions League football change United’s approach to the transfer window, Amorim gave a telling response as he said: ‘The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversation to have any change in the squad.
‘There is a process, there is an idea. We are near the Champions League places, but we also near eight teams behind us, so let’s focus on the next game.’
Amorim has hinted at discord between himself and the Old Trafford hierarchy and director of football Jason Wilcox over Christmas when he spoke about strengthening his squad before the games against Newcastle and Wolves.
On Christmas Eve, he said: ‘I think we are doing things; sometimes I have one idea, Jason and the board has another idea but every decision we make, we need to reach a common ground.

‘That is really important because you don’t need to make everything for the manager because the manager can change and then you need to change everything. But you also need to understand (that) the manager understands the way of playing.’
Then before the deflating 1-1 draw with Wolves on Tuesday, Amorim indicated that he wouldn’t have a lot to spend after United paid out £236m on new signings in the summer.
He said: ‘I have the feeling that if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3, we need to spend a lot of money and we need time. So, I’m starting to understand that that is not going to happen. So, maybe I have to adapt.’
The fact there are unlikely to be any new players in January also means United would be reluctant to let any players go amid speculation over the futures of Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.
Asked if any players have knocked on his door requesting to leave, Amorim replied: ‘No, none of them. I don’t expect them to come to me to ask anything.’
