Arsenal and Chelsea fighting over €90m Real Madrid star

Arsenal and Chelsea are already fighting to put themselves in pole position to sign Arda Guler from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Premier League sides believe that there’s a chance that the 20-year-old will be available for transfer in the summer for a fee of around €90-100 million, and they are preparing the early groundwork for a deal.

Guler finds himself a victim of the churn at Real Madrid, where the domination of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, who seems destined to land a new contract, leaves little space for others to break into the starting XI.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea sense there is a chance for them to land the young playmaker, with reports these clubs are interested in him the confirmation of long-standing rumours.

However, there appears to be an increased believe that they will be capable of signing him, according to CaughtOffside.

“Arsenal are continuing to monitor Arda Guler,” one source said. “The challenge would be persuading the player, who is not currently looking to leave Real Madrid.”

It is stressed that a January deal is not on the cards, but Los Blancos could be serious about selling the Turk in the summer.

Which club should Guler pick?

From Guler’s perspective, leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal or Chelsea makes little sense, according to data analytics experts SciSports, which rates neither club as a smart move for his career.

SciSports bases its algorithm over several key metrics, including potential development, playing time, playing style and formation. Using these, it calculates a Club Fit score. The higher this is, the better the chance is of being a success.

Arsenal get a weak score of 62, with little to commend a move to the Emirates except for a moderate development opportunities. Chelsea, though, are further back on 51, scoring just a single star in each category. The caveat with the Blues, though, is that Liam Rosenior may change their style and formation in time to something more suited to him.

Guler’s best possible moves are to Inter Milan, who get a Club Fit of 83, Aston Villa (76) and Bayern Munich (74).

In other words: Arsenal and Chelsea beware.
