After last week’s shocking 1-2 defeat to Augsburg in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany made several changes for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against PSV.

Most notably, Michael Olise and Harry Kane were both benched, while Nicolas Jackson and Jamal Musiala were handed starts. For Musiala, it was his first start since suffering a serious injury at the Club World Cup last summer.

Meanwhile, Jonas Urbig retained his place in goal and had a busy first half, pulling off a string of fine saves to keep Bayern level at halftime.

The German champions also created chances of their own, with Tom Bischof’s freekick hitting the woodwork after just six minutes coming closest.

Musiala made a real impact after 58 minutes, combining with Lennart Karl before unleashing an unstoppable strike to score his first goal of the season.

However, Bayern couldn’t hold onto the lead, as Ismail Saibari found the equaliser for PSV in the 78th minute with a well-placed finish.

Bayern responded quickly, though, and scored the winner in the 84th minute when Luis Diaz delivered a cross across goal to second-half substitute Harry Kane, who made no mistake, powering the ball into the net.

The victory sees Bayern finish the league phase in second place behind Arsenal with 21 points from eight matches.

PSV, who had Mauro Junior sent off for a second yellow card in injury time, are out of the competition.
