Arsenal midfielder suffers serious foot injury

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has suffered a serious foot injury and could be ruled out for some period of time.

The Spaniard has been a key player for the north London giants and he has come up with several goal contributions as well.

Merino recently scored a late goal in the 3-2 loss to Manchester United, but he is now doubtful for the next few weeks.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners enter the transfer market for a new signing before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal had initially planned to delay any pursuit of new signings until the summer, but it could change with Merino’s setback.

Still, the club are unlikely to make a huge outlay on a permanent deal, and they are more likely to explore a loan transfer.

With Merino’s setback, it could increase the playing time for Christian Norgaard, who has barely played in the league.

The Dane has largely played in other competitions this term.
