Werder Bremen have confirmed Daniel Thioune as their new head coach.

The 51-year-old was unveiled on Wednesday as the successor to recently sacked Horst Steffen.

“We had very good discussions with Daniel. His ideas about football, his personality, and his approach to our current sporting situation were decisive for our decision. We are convinced that with him, we will achieve a turnaround,” said Werder’s managing director for professional football, Clemens Fritz.

Thioune, who has been out of work since his dismissal from Fortuna Düsseldorf in October, commented:

“I am very much looking forward to working with the team, and I am convinced that we will succeed in working together effectively and achieving the club’s goals. After the very good discussions with those responsible, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to join Werder.”

The new head coach will lead his first training session today at 14:00.
