Chelsea have reportedly entered the bidding war for Brentford striker Igor Thiago ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Brazilian, who has been tipped to earn his first international call-up before the 2026 World Cup, has scored 17 Premier League goals so far this season and several top European clubs are understood to be tracking his progress closely.
The 24-year-old recently signed a new long-term contract at Brentford that is valid until 2031, however he continues to be linked with a summer exit amid his immense form this campaign.
Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland (22) is the only player with more English top flight goals than Thiago this season and rumoured interest from across Europe is therefore fairly unsurprising.
Bayern Munich have been working on a possible deal for several weeks, while Chelsea and Manchester City have now entered the race for his signature amid their pursuit of attacking reinforcements.
That is according to a shock report from Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Bayern were advancing on an agreement for Thiago before being challenged by both Chelsea and Man City.
The Premier League giants have reportedly intensified their bid for Thiago’s signature and are now working on a proposal to tempt Brentford into a sale this summer.
Chelsea eye Igor Thiago deal?
As per Fichajes, Chelsea view a possible move for Thiago as a fantastic opportunity to bolster the forward options available to Liam Rosenior amid Liam Delap’s struggles in front of goal.
The England striker has only scored two goals in all competitions so far this season and despite grabbing three assists against Hull City in the FA Cup on Friday night, he has already been linked with a summer departure.
Striker duo Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev will both join Chelsea this summer, but the club are reportedly still keen on finalising a deal for Thiago amid his immense form for Brentford this term.
