Concern rippled through the club and its supporters yesterday when captain Fabian Reese was forced off late on after a heavy challenge from Maurice Neubauer in the eventual 3-2 defeat to Hannover.

The 28-year-old made his way to the dressing room with a thick bandage wrapped around his left foot, prompting fears over the severity of the injury. Speaking shortly after the incident, Reese admitted: “I had the feeling that it was flashing through my foot. You always get a little scared when the bone vibrates like that. I hope it’s just a nerve.”

Relief arrived on Sunday as BILD reported that the Hertha talisman has not suffered a metatarsal fracture or any significant structural damage. Instead, the sudden pain was caused by a pinched nerve. The winger is now expected to be available for next week’s away clash with SC Paderborn.

Reese remains a crucial component of Hertha’s system and a player they can ill afford to lose. The winger has featured 22 times in the 2. Bundesliga this season and currently leads the league for combined goals and assists with 15 (six goals, nine assists).
