Manchester United midfield target Aleksandar Stankovic has revealed that he “dreams” of rejoining Inter Milan amid rumours of a Premier League move this summer.

The 20-year-old left San Siro to join Club Brugge for a fee of €9.5 million last July and he has enjoyed a thoroughly successful start to life in Belgium, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

His form has unsurprisingly attracted the attention of scouts across Europe, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all keeping close tabs on his development, as per TEAMtalk.

However, Stankovic has now revealed that he would like to return to Inter, rather than complete a move to the English top flight.

Speaking to Sky Italy over the weekend, Stankovic admitted (via Chelsea Chronicle): “Inter is a unique love, either you have it inside you or you don’t. Inter fans can understand. Coming back is a dream in the drawer, I don’t know when it will come true.”

The Serbia international, who is the son of Inter legend Dejan Stankovic, failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Nerazzurri before his departure last summer, and his stock has risen dramatically since his arrival at Club Brugge.

However, he is keen to return to San Siro if possible, meaning Man Utd and other Premier League suitors will be required to pursue an alternative midfield target this summer.

Man Utd chase new midfielder

With a move for Stankovic now unlikely to take place, Man Utd are expected to continue their pursuit of long-term targets Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba instead.

The Red Devils are in the market for at least one new central midfielder following confirmation that Casemiro will depart the club when his current contract expires in July, while a second option could be targeted if Manuel Ugarte leaves too.

Bruno Fernandes has also been linked with an Old Trafford exit amid significant interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, although Kobbie Mainoo will be staying at the club following his resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick.
