Appearing as a pundit on Prime Video’s coverage of Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Atalanta yesterday, Mats Hummels was asked about the current state of Bayern Munich.
The 2014 World Cup winner with the German national team clearly felt the high standards held by Vincent Kompany’s side have tailed off in their most previous outings.
“I see Bayern as less confident at the moment. Until a few weeks ago, they would have been one of my top three favorites for the Champions League title
“I’ve seen many games in recent weeks where they have clearly dropped off,” explained Hummels, alluding to a possible dip in performances.
The 37-year-old’s arguments made for interesting listening given he formerly represented both Dortmund and Bayern during different stages of his playing career.
With just six points between the teams at the time of writing, BVB will host the Bavarians on Saturday, 28 February, with an eye towards closing the gap in the title race.
