Benjamin Henrichs targets World Cup spot and Champions League qualification

Benjamin Henrichs has set ambitious goals following his return from a long-term injury, aiming for a spot in the German World Cup spot as well as Champions League qualification with RB Leipzig.

After many months on the sidelines due to an Achilles tendon rupture, Benjamin Henrichs is now fully fit again.

Having started RB Leipzig’s last two games, the right-back is aiming to secure a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad.

“I consider it realistic and approach it with confidence,” Henrichs told Sky Germany. 

“I know I have to keep working hard. At the end of the day, I want to be able to say that I gave everything for it,” added the 26-year-old, who last played for Germany in October 2024.

Can RB Leipzig return to the Champions League?

At club level, Henrichs is focused on helping RB Leipzig return to the Champions League, with the Saxony side currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga.

“Another year without the Champions League would not be good for the club, the players, or the fans – none of us want that. The Champions League has to be our ambition,” he said.

“In recent weeks, we’ve lacked a certain level of maturity. But we’ve already taken steps forward in that area. Still, overall we need to become more mature.”

Henrichs and RB Leipzig will host Borussia Dortmund at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday in a crucial clash for European qualification.
