Alvaro Arbeloa may have won seven of his last eight matches as Real Madrid manager, but that has still not stopped speculation over who may replace him, with Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti two regularly cited names.
Arbeloa stepped up from Castilla in the aftermath of Xabi Alonso’s sacking, and while Los Blancos have refused to call him an interim appointment, there is little clarity on what his future may hold.
The BBC reports that he is under contract with Real Madrid until the end of next season, but COPE claims he has an open-ended agreement with the club. Such uncertainty is only fuelling claims that he could soon be replaced.
Romano refuses to rule out Real Madrid for Klopp
Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Klopp, who is Red Bull’s head of global soccer, could be the man to step into the role at the Bernabeu.
The transfer reported explained on his YouTube channel that rumours linking the former Liverpool boss to Manchester United and Chelsea had no substance, but he notably stopped short of such a firm denial when it came to Real Madrid.
“Recent comments from the agent of Jurgen Klopp suggested that both Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches when Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool,” Romano noted.
“However, both clubs have firmly denied any advanced or concrete discussions.
“Klopp was very clear publicly that he wanted time away from management after many intense years at Liverpool.
“He remains fully committed to his role within the Red Bull project.
“Regarding Real Madrid, there is admiration for Klopp from certain figures within the board, but at this stage there are no direct negotiations or formal steps.”
Reports in Spain, meanwhile, have indicated that Klopp is ready to make transfer demands worth €200m in order for him to take the job.
Carlo Ancelotti to sign Brazil deal
One man who will not be Real Madrid’s next manager is Carlo Ancelotti.
While there was speculation of the Italian returning to the club after the World Cup, the Brazil boss is set to stay on and sign a new four-year contract with the Selecao, according to The Athletic.
With Arbeloa doing a solid job at the Bernabeu after initial doubt, Real Madrid are in the luxurious position of not having to push for a new manager yet it still appears they are planning for the potential arrival of a top-level boss.
