Inter have made a definitive transfer decision on Arsenal target Francesco Pio Esposito, according to Italian media.

The 20-year-old has been one of the biggest breakout stars in Italian football over the past two seasons. Having initially starred out on loan at Serie B side Spezia, Pio Esposito has been impressing at Inter since the summer.

Already a five-time senior Italy international with three goals to his name, the young striker is currently living the dream. All told, he has scored seven goals and provided six assists for Inter so far this season.

Thanks to AC Milan and Napoli both dropping points, the Nerazzurri are now 10 points clear at the summit of Serie A, so Pio Esposito is on course to become a Scudetto winner in his first full season of top-flight football.

However, his exploits have not gone unnoticed. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed earlier this month that Arsenal have taken a keen interest in the wonderkid, and this has been widely picked up by the Italian press.

Inter set Pio Esposito stance

Arsenal view Pio Esposito as a high-potential long-term option and would initially like to sign him as a backup option to Viktor Gyokeres. Compatriot Andrea Berta, the Gunners’ sporting director, has been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old’s development for years.

However, Inter have absolutely no intention of entertaining offers for their striker prodigy, according to Calciomercato. On the contrary, they are planning to hand him a new contract until 2031 that will entail a significant pay increase.

This echoes reports that already came out of Italy last week and makes it clear that Inter will rebuff any and all approaches for Pio Esposito, despite the growing “queue” for the player.

Arsenal are leading the race for the youngster, but Inter are relaxed about the situation because of Pio Esposito’s excellent relationship with senior figures at the club, particularly head coach Cristian Chivu, who decided to integrate him into the first team instead of loaning him out again.
