Fabrizio Romano has provided key updates on Weston McKennie’s future at Juventus, Orlando City’s push for Antoine Griezmann, Barcelona’s negotiations over Marcus Rashford, and Manchester United’s midfield plans.
Juventus secure Weston McKennie’s future
Juventus have made a crucial breakthrough over the future of their versatile American midfielder.
“Let me start from the US because we are talking about an American player who could have moved, but now the situation is very clear,” Romano revealed on YouTube.
“Weston McKennie is doing fantastic at Juventus. One of the best midfielders in Serie A this season, probably one of the best players overall. He’s playing everywhere – midfielder, winger, striker, even defender. Incredible season.
“Now the important news is that Juventus have reached an agreement in principle with Weston McKennie over a new long-term contract valid until June 2030.
“The salary will be around €4m net per season. Final details are being sorted, but Weston McKennie is set to sign. Despite interest from clubs in Italy and the Premier League, the player is very happy to continue at Juventus.”
Antoine Griezmann: Orlando City target France international
Romano then outlined a major MLS attempt to land a global star.
“Now let’s talk about Antoine Griezmann because Orlando City are going all in to bring him to MLS,” Romano explained.
“The director of Orlando City, Riccardo Moreira, has travelled several times to Madrid to meet Griezmann and people close to the player. This is a very serious attempt.
“They are offering a three-year contract on a very big salary. Orlando know that one of Griezmann’s desires is to play in MLS one day and to live in the US.
“But remember, Atletico Madrid remain in control of the situation. The MLS transfer window closes in mid-March, so Orlando will try now. If not, they could try again in the summer.
“Atletico want to count on Griezmann until the end of the season, so it won’t be easy. But the interest from Orlando City is absolutely genuine.”
Marcus Rashford to Barcelona: What’s happening?
Barcelona are pushing to secure Rashford beyond this season.
“Since January, Barcelona have made it very clear to Marcus Rashford that they want him to stay,” Romano said.
“The message from the club and from coach Hansi Flick has always been very positive. Rashford also wants to stay at Barcelona.
“Negotiations on the player’s contract terms are underway and progressing well. Barcelona are making good progress on the salary side.
“But then there is the club-to-club discussion. Manchester United want the €30m option clause paid in full. The message from United is clear – pay €30m or the player doesn’t join.
“So Barcelona feel strong because the player is on their side, but they still need to agree terms with Manchester United. United do not want to offer any discount.”
Manchester United’s bit midfield plans – including new Mainoo deal
Midfield will be a key focus for United in the upcoming window.
“Manchester United will go really strong on midfield,” Romano stated.
“Casemiro is expected to leave, so they could sign one or two midfielders in the summer. They are also working on a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo.
“Many names will be mentioned. On Alexis Mac Allister, there is no confirmation at the moment. Sandro Tonali is appreciated.
“In England there have been reports about Ibrahim Sangare from Nottingham Forest, but at this stage I’m not aware of anything concrete.
“The name they absolutely love from Nottingham Forest is Elliot Anderson. He is doing fantastic, English, talented, and he is on Manchester United’s shortlist.
“But it will depend on several factors – the manager situation, exits, and especially Champions League qualification. Financially, that would be crucial for Manchester United to understand whether they can sign two midfielders and what profiles they can target.
“Let’s see how the situation develops in the coming months, but for sure Manchester United will be very active in midfield.”
