Liverpool’s interest in Galatasaray right-back Roland Sallai has been confirmed, suggesting the Reds are lining up a summer transfer for the Hungary international star.
The Reds already have two Hungarians in Arne Slot’s ranks, with Dominik Szoboszlai emerging as an integral figure in recent weeks as Milos Kerkez continues to hold down the left-back position.
They could soon be joined by Sallai, according to the player’s father, Tibor, who says that Liverpool have already started to explore a deal.
Speaking to Blikk, he explained:
“Liverpool could be a destination. I know that contact has already been made through a management office. I don’t want to and I don’t want to shout anything, but my son will really have a good chance in the summer, if there is an offer that is also beneficial for Galatasaray, to change country and level. It wouldn’t be just any moment if Liverpool were to run out onto the Anfield Road turf with three Hungarians in the starting line-up.”
Right-back woes at Anfield
Liverpool have found themselves short in the right-back area in recent weeks due to serious injuries to both Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong. With Joe Gomez also missing, they have lacked a natural in that role, with Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo sharing the duty.
However, if they are seeking to sign Sallai in the summer, it would cast doubt over the future of Frimpong just a year after arriving at the club.
The Netherlands star has struggled to show his best form since arriving at Anfield. He was expected to join as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, but has been hampered by injury and has made only six Premier League starts.
Roland Sallai: Why a shock Liverpool move may just work
Sallai, meanwhile, would be a surprise signing for Liverpool. With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €10.8 million, he would not be an expensive addition and has been one of the Turkish Super Lig’s best performing wing-backs this season.
Certainly, there are elements of his game that make him an interesting fit for the Reds. He posts a huge expected assists (xA) figure in Turkey, while he also possesses tremendous physical capabilities, as he is quick and has exceptional stamina.
Roland Sallai vs Super Lig full-backs and wing-backs: Overall performance (2025/26)
According to data analytics experts SciSports, he is a strong match for Liverpool, earning a Club Fit score of 72. This is calculated using a variety of different metrics, including development, game time, style and formation. Sallai’s figure is even dragged down by a lack of playing time, but if Frimpong or Bradley were to leave, this would surely improve.
If this is just Sallai’s father running his mouth off about a potential big move to Liverpool for his son, it is not without merit.
