Manchester United have summer transfer plans and CEO Omar Berrada has spoken about the club’s financial situation and approach moving forward after the second quarter financial results
Manchester United chief Omar Berrada has hinted the club’s transfer spending is not over as they take a ‘football-first approach’. Berrada has spoken out following the announcement of the Red Devils’ second-quarter financial results.
United confirmed an operating profit of £32.6million in the first 6 months of the financial year, compared to a £3.9million operating loss previously. Berrada has suggested an off-pitch transformation, that included vast redundancies, allowed for a healthier outlook that ensures the club can continue to focus on on-field success.
After missing out on European qualification, United splashed cash in the summer. They spent more than £200million to replenish their forward line with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
They stopped short of improving their midfield, their next priority in the transfer window. Berrada’s comments appear to suggest the spending will continue.
The Chief Executive Officer said: “We are now seeing the positive financial impact of our off-pitch transformation materialise both in our costs and profitability.

“We continue to take a football-first approach and invest in both our men’s and women’s first teams. On the pitch our men’s team sits 4th in the Premier League and our women’s team are 2nd in the Women’s Super League, as well as reaching the League Cup Final and the quarter final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“Today’s results demonstrate the underlying strength of our business as we continue to push for the best football results possible for our Men’s and Women’s teams.”

United are hopeful their financial footing has the club in a strong position should they qualify for the Champions League. Since appointing Michael Carrick last month, the Red Devils have had the ambition of making their way back into Europe’s top competition.
Carrick’s unbeaten start has placed United in fourth spot, Victories over Arsenal and Manchester City have pushed the side to a six-match unbeaten run and three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
“It’s good everyone’s asking that question,” Carrick said of United’s push for the Champions League. “It shows we’ve put ourselves in a good position to start with.
“We’re not getting too carried away after a few weeks. But we’re in a good position and we’re positive, which we should be.
“There’s a lot of good things to take and it’s possible. It’s up to us to take the opportunity.”
