Several major stories are developing across England, Germany and Brazil, including a surprise free agent move, growing belief at Manchester United over their interim coach and key contract talks at Bayern.

Jesse Lingard to Corinthians – here we go

Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has turned down the opportunity to sign for City Football Group side New York City FC and has instead moved to Corinthians in Brazil.

Jesse Lingard is set to join Corinthians on a one-year deal plus an option to extend,” Fabrizio Romano told his YouTube channel.

“Everything is agreed between Lingard and Corinthians.

“The player is already in Brazil for medical tests and contract signing.

“He was available as a free agent and also had a proposal from MLS, specifically from New York City FC.

“But Lingard has decided to go to Brazil and start a new chapter of his career at Corinthians.”

Manchester United increasingly positive over Michael Carrick

Man Utd continue to win under Michael Carrick, and that former England midfielder is looking an increasingly strong candidate for the role on a full-time basis.

Romano explained: “Manchester United have won seven Premier League games under Michael Carrick, with six wins and one draw.

“The atmosphere around the squad is excellent and the players are very happy with Carrick.

“It does not mean anything has been decided for summer 2026 in terms of the permanent manager.

“But week after week, the feeling around Carrick is increasingly positive.

“When Manchester United decided to part ways with Ruben Amorim and give Carrick the opportunity, they expected him to do well – but not at this level.

“Now, internally, there is a feeling that Carrick could really have a chance to become the next permanent manager.

“It is not decided, but the opportunity is there and he is surprising everyone at the club.”

Nico Jackson to leave Bayern and assess options

Chelsea are set to have Nicolas Jackson sent back to them in the summer, with the Colombia striker surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich.

Romano confirmed: “Nico Jackson will not stay at Bayern in the summer transfer window,.

“Bayern paid more than €15 million as a loan fee, but the player is expected to return to Chelsea.

“Chelsea and the player’s camp will assess opportunities on the market.

“In Italy, Jackson is appreciated, and there will also be opportunities in England and Spain.

“At the moment, I am not aware of Chelsea having a clear plan for him to return and stay.

“If a good opportunity arrives, from a technical and financial point of view, there is a chance Chelsea could sell Jackson in the summer.”

Bayern working on Harry Kane contract

On the other hand, Bayern are doing everything they can to retain Harry Kane for as long a possible, with discussions over a new deal well underway.

“Bayern are in talks with the camp of Harry Kane over a new contract,” Romano said of the England striker.

“The feeling at the club is that Kane could stay even after the World Cup.

“There is interest from England and also from Saudi, where they are big fans of Kane.

“But Bayern are trying to accelerate discussions and reach an agreement in the next months.

“It is not only about money. Kane has always considered family and personal decisions as important in his career.

“So this contract situation will be an important topic in the coming months.”

AC Milan pushing to sign Andre from Corinthians

Romano also confirmed action in Italy, where Milan are closing in on their first summer signing.

“AC Milan have a verbal agreement almost done with Corinthians for Andre, with a transfer fee around €13 to 14 million plus add-ons,” he said.

“There is also an agreement in place with the player.

“But the president of Corinthians has not yet countersigned the contracts because he wants more money.

“Milan moved quickly and anticipated German clubs in the race.

“Now we have to see if Milan will be able to formally seal the deal.”
