Real Madrid misses Cristiano Ronaldo: without him, they haven't been able to repeat this record in LaLiga

Without a doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to live on in the hearts and memories of every Real Madrid fan. However, his absence also weighs heavily on the team, as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer has left them without a great record in LaLiga.

The truth is that, since his departure, Los Merengues have not scored more than 100 goals, highlighting not only the Portuguese player’s talent but also the club’s lack of it without him.

Real Madrid is not the same without CR7

Álvaro Arbeloa’s team is coming off a 0-1 loss to Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu, but they had also lost to Osasuna 2-1 on Saturday, February 21.

This season, the franchise has scored just 54 goals and, with 12 games remaining, it looks unlikely that they will exceed 100 goals in LaLiga for the eighth consecutive season.

The last time Real Madrid achieved this milestone coincided with the Portuguese player’s departure in 2018, when he left for Juventus. Before that, and during eight of his nine seasons at the club, Cristiano scored 100 or more goals consecutively in LaLiga.

In fact, the club’s best season after the 41-year-old Portuguese star’s departure was in 2023/2024, when Carlo Ancelotti was still managing Real Madrid. They won the title and scored 87 goals, but there were seasons where they only reached 63, such as in 2018/2019.

To understand the impact of the current Al Nassr captain, before his arrival, Los Merengues had only once scored more than 100 goals in LaLiga, and we have to go back to the last century, to the 1989-90 season.

In addition, Cristiano won a total of 16 official titles with the white shirt: 4 UEFA Champions Leagues, 2 LaLiga titles, 2 Copa del Rey titles, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 3 Club World Cups, and 3 European Super Cups.

Even with the arrival of big soccer stars at the club such as Karim Benzema, Vinicius, and Kylian Mbappé, they have not been able to reverse this situation, and in games such as the one against Getafe, it is even more noticeable.

After this recent defeat, Real Madrid faces March with key commitments in LaLiga and the Champions League:

  • On Friday, March 6, they will travel to the Abanca Balaídos stadium to face Celta Vigo on matchday 27 of LaLiga.
  • On Wednesday, March 11, they will play the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu (the second leg will be at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, March 17).
  • On Saturday, March 14, they will host Elche CF at home on matchday 28 of LaLiga.
