Tottenham Hotspur are legitimately locked in a relegation battle and they could be set for a campaign in the second division of English football for the first time since 1977-78 if results don’t improve quickly.
Interim boss Igor Tudor has lost his first two matches in charge of the north London giants and Spurs are currently without a win in their last 10 Premier League games.
Their last league victory came against Crystal Palace on 28 December and they face the same opposition in a crunch clash on Thursday evening that could spell the end of Tudor’s stint in charge.
Rumours have suggested that Tudor could already be sacked if Tottenham are beaten by Oliver Glasner’s side, with last season’s Europa League winners desperate to avoid the humiliation of relegation to the Championship.
It has been revealed that Spurs stars will receive a 50% wage cut if they finish in the bottom three of the Premier League table this term, although a plethora of their biggest stars, including centre-back duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, will almost certainly leave the club if they are relegated.
However, several players would be forced to stay with the club in the Championship next season.
Guglielmo Vicario
Reports in Italy have suggested that Inter Milan view Guglielmo Vicario as a potential long-term replacement for Yann Sommer, but his form this season has been a major disappointment and a deal therefore seems highly unlikely from the outset.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise if no big clubs are willing to pay a suitable fee for Vicario, which could result in him starting next season as Spurs’ first-choice goalkeeper in the second tier if they’re relegated.
He will have two years remaining on his current contract this summer and he could play a key role for the club in 2025-26.
Kevin Danso
With Romero and Van de Ven wanted by a number of elite clubs, Tottenham will find it almost impossible to retain the duo if they are in the Championship next term.
Signing an all-new central defensive partnership would be a risk, however, meaning Kevin Danso would be set for a pivotal role at the heart of Spurs’ backline.
The Austria international has been a rotation option since his arrival in north London, but he could be promoted into a more prominent role next season.
Ben Davies
Ben Davies has been at Tottenham since 2014 and he is still only 32 years old, meaning the club would be wise to offer him a contract extension this summer.
His current deal is due to expire in July, but the Wales legend would be an extremely useful player in the Championship, especially given his versatility to cover at centre-back and left-back.
Injury issues have restricted him to just three Premier League appearances this term, but Spurs will rely on Davies if they are a Championship club in 2026-27.
Archie Gray
Archie Gray is one of the most sellable assets at Tottenham’s disposal and he will be in high demand if they drop down to the second tier.
However, Spurs paid €41.3m to sign him from Leeds United in 2024 and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) already stands at over €55m due to his immense potential and the fact he is already a regular in the Tottenham starting XI.
As a result, any interested clubs will be forced to pay a huge fee to convince Tottenham to sell, and the north London outfit will instead be determined to retain the England U21 international in their bid to secure an immediate promotion.
Wilson Odobert
Wilson Odobert has the raw attributes to be an excellent Premier League winger, but his final action has been lacking since he joined Tottenham and he has only scored five goals and provided five assists in 54 appearances for the club.
Despite this, he is a player who would’ve been on the radar of several English top flight teams this summer, but he suffered an ACL tear in February and is expected to miss the majority of 2026 as a result.
Therefore, he will almost certainly still be a Tottenham player if they are relegated and could play a key role during the second half of next season.
