Leipzig reportedly must generate €100m in player sales regardless of Champions League qualification

It’s believed that the Saxony club is in for another busy summer of transfer business given the financial demands placed on them by Red Bull.

According to Sky Germany, RB Leipzig must generate more than €100 million in revenue from player transfers again, regardless of achieving Champions League qualification.

This, based on the report, is a clear directive from Red Bull. If they qualify for the Champions League, one top-tier player departure plus other smaller sales will suffice.

Should they fail to qualify, two top-tier departures are anticipated, which could easily be the likes of Yan Diomande and Castello Lukeba, valued together at around €170million.

It is worth noting that over €40 million may be paid for Loïs Openda given the obligation to buy for Juventus if they finish at least 10th in Serie A, which is not included in this calculation.

Since this is a very realistic purchase obligation given the Turin club is currently in sixth place, the Openda deal is considered part of last summer’s transfer figures.

All other loan deals such as Eljif Elmas, Arthur Vermeeren and Lutsharel Geertruida are considered part of this summer’s figures, as they only include purchase options.
