Arsenal 3-0 PSV – Champions League LIVE: Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus score in dream start for Mikel Arteta with second half underway

Arsenal have had 10 shots to PSV’s 9, and the Gunners have hardly had the lion’s share of possession – just 52%.

One thing that has made a difference is that they’re not rushing. Seven of their shots have been on target, compared to PSV’s two.

Watch back Gabriel Jesus’ goal later and look how calm he was. It felt like there was an eternity between his first touch and the goal because he got the ball that still.

I don’t think you’ll see many more prolific halves than that in the Champions League this season. Not against a side of PSV’s ilk, with senior internationals and a brilliant defensive record until tonight.

That was majestic from Arsenal. Majestic, sublime, ruthless. Every time they got on the ball in PSV’s half, they looked like they could score a goal. Their Dutch opponents were in disarray.

From back to front, Arsenal have been magnificent so far. But it’s far from over yet.

Not much of note in recent minutes. PSV have tried to use Luuk de Jong as an outlet but William Saliba and Gabriel have been a solid central two defenders.

It’s a thunderous strike from Gabriel Jesus and now he’s got a well-earned goal!

Leandro Trossard receives a long ball on the left flank and plays in a superb pass. Jesus traps it with his first touch, and slams it home with his second. Marvellous technique and a clinical finish.

That’s his 21st Champions League goal.

David Raya’s performance so far has been intriguing.

PSV have held quite a high line, so rather than going short, often Arsenal’s ‘keeper has gone long to mixed success.

He also steps really wide sometimes when giving defenders a passing option. If they lost the ball, PSV would have an empty goal. It’s a risky strategy but it allows Arsenal to play their way out of trouble.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich are locking horns in the contest of who can score the most!

Serge Gnabry has doubled the German side’s lead.

Meanwhile at the Emirates, we haven’t seen a chance for a few minutes but Arsenal are enjoying a period of sustained possession.

Arsenal’s front three have caused PSV all sorts of trouble.

Their dribbling has been balletic, their movement well-timed, and their shooting lethal. Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard have been given way too much space on the wings, but when they encounter opposition, they brush past them as if it’s playground football. This is seriously impressive stuff.

Bayern Munich have taken a 1-0 lead in their clash against Manchester United via Leroy Sane.

This is too easy for Arsenal.

Leandro Trossard progressed in from the left flank and gave the ball to Gabriel Jesus, who shimmies to the right, opens up his body, and unleashes a shot destined for the top corner from the edge of the area.

Walter Benitez saves with a big dive and it’s an Arsenal corner, though that comes to nothing.

PSV had a nice spell of danger there, feeling their way around the edge of the area, but couldn’t trouble David Raya as a cross from the right sails into his arms.

A fantastic goal on the counter-attack.

Gabriel Jesus burst through the middle of the park after claiming possession, fed it to Bukayo Saka on the right flank, and he picked out Leandro trossard on the edge of the area.

The Belgian hits it first-time and it slips past Walter Benitez into the corner.

A beautiful goal, and so much credit should go to Jesus for his intuition, pace, and decisiveness.

Saka is in his element here, dribbling where he likes.

He cuts into the centre to try and find a scoring opportunity, but plays it wide. A cross from the left finds Gabriel Jesus but he is under pressure, off balance, and can’t generate much power. A limp header runs well wide.

Ben White has his work cut out tonight as Noa Lang is looking like a bright spark for PSV down the left-hand side.

He’s got good feet and when given space, he’s pouncing on it with a shot or by cutting inside.

Well, after that early opener, Arsenal are capitalising on a sleepy PSV.

They’ve had a couple of chances since the goal and are in the ascendancy here.

Martin Odegaard shoots from the edge of the area, and Bukayo Saka pounces on the end of Walter Benitez’s save.

Oleksandr Zinchenko lofted a ball across the defensive line there and though William Saliba managed to trap it, it was difficult to deal with.

Arsenal play a couple of passes but lose the ball in their third and it ends with Luuk de Jong scufifng a volley wide.

Martin Odegaard threaded through Bukayo Saka in the box but they failed to make the most of it. A promising start, though, if they can carve PSV open like that with one pass.

PSV broke nicely there and Noa Lang got a low shot off from the left corner of the box, but it was an easy take for David Raya and settles him into the game.

They met in the group stages of the Europa League last season, with the Gunners sealing a 1-0 win at home thanks to a Granit Xhaka goal but losing 2-0 away.

We’ve just witnessed some manic scenes at the Bernabeu as Jude Bellingham prodded home a 94th-minute winner for Real Madrid against Union Berlin.

With a last-touch Lazio goalkeeper goal last night, and other crazy games, the Champions League is already delivering.

Quite a night for a man who once went on loan to Southport in the fifth tier.

PSV enter this clash in fearsome form.

They’re top of the Eredivisie with four wins in four, scoring 13 and conceding one.

Luuk de Jong, if you remember him from an ill-fated stint at Newcastle in 2013/14, has scored four so far this campaign.

With 18 goals last season, he’s a traditional ‘handful’ – William Saliba and Gabriel will have their work cut out against his physicality.

David Raya replaced Aaron Ramsdale at the weekend and a big question for Mikel Arteta going forward surrounds the identity of his first-choice goalkeeper.

Ramsdale did a solid job for Arsenal last season but was not infallible and Raya could be seen as the fashionable choice.
