Elliot Anderson’s proposed summer move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City is reportedly “a done deal.”
The England international has been heavily linked with an Etihad Stadium switch in recent months and he performed extremely well on his transfer audition on Wednesday evening, scoring a sublime goal during Forest’s 2-2 draw against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Anderson has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the past year and Man City have emerged as strong suitors for his signature amid their pursuit of a suitable long-term replacement for Rodri.
Arch-rivals Manchester United have also earmarked the 23-year-old as their priority transfer target for 2026 and rumours have suggested that Michael Carrick’s side are ready to challenge for Anderson’s signature following confirmation that Casemiro will depart on a Bosman deal in July.
However, the Red Devils are set to be left empty-handed as Anderson is on the verge of finalising an agreement with Man City.
That is according to transfer reporter Graeme Bailey, who told TEAMtalk: “I have to be honest, for several weeks now, from numerous sources, I am told that Anderson to City is a done deal.
“City have been on Anderson for months, since last year. I am told Hugo Viana picked him out last summer as one he wanted. In football circles, the belief is that Anderson is only going to one place and that is City.
“Whilst City and Forest are not confirming anything, I think that whilst nothing is signed, Anderson knows where he will be playing next season and that will be the Etihad.”
Analysis: How will Elliot Anderson fare at Man City?
Anderson has been superb since his arrival at Nottingham Forest in 2024 and he is now a regular starter alongside Declan Rice for England.
He has been Forest’s standout player so far this term and his all-round game already looks ideally suited to Guardiola’s favoured system at Man City. His in-possession quality is top, while he combines this with excellent stamina and defensive nous.
However, with Rodri expected to remain at Man City next season, he may struggle to nail down a consistent starting XI place, especially considering competition will also come in the form of Bernardo Silva, Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders.
Despite this, Anderson is still likely to be a fantastic signing for Man City, although Forest’s asking price of close to €100 million is significantly higher than his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €47.7m.
