A future partnership between Xabi Alonso and on-loan defender Odilon Kossounou is not expected, as Kicker reports.

The reason for Kossounou and Bayer Leverkusen falling out was that Alonso did not explain his decision to drop him after he returned from the African Cup of Nations.

As a result, the Ivorian player then complained about a “massive lack of respect and trust” from the Spanish head coach.

Kossounou is said to be happy in Bergamo and Atalanta have signaled that they want to keep him on a permanent basis.

It is likely that the Serie A side will activate their €25million purchase option, which is valid until the end of May.
