AC Milan follow Tottenham, Real Madrid and Arsenal ‘examples’ as Cardinale’s plan revealed

Milan President Paolo Scaroni says the Rossoneri are following Tottenham, Real Madrid and Arsenal ‘examples’ as they prepare to build a new stadium, while owner Gerry Cardinale wants to remain at the helm ‘for a long time.’

Milan President Scaroni has released an interview about the new stadium for the Rossoneri and their city rivals Inter, saying that the two clubs aim to play their first game in the new San Siro in 2030.

The Serie A giants have clear ideas regarding the financial improvements that a new stadium will bring.

Milan follow three examples with new stadium

“Let me give you three examples: Tottenham, Real Madrid and Arsenal,” Scaroni told Milano Finanza.

“All of which have invested in state-of-the-art stadiums in recent years. All three more than doubled their revenues in the first year in their new homes compared to the last year with the old ones. Milan and Inter currently only make a fraction of these figures. So, to remain competitive from a sporting perspective, we need a modern facility. We expect a substantial increase in revenues, not because ticket prices for fans and families will be higher, but because we’ll be able to sell more hospitality packages to companies and premium tickets, and that’s even without counting the revenue from other activities.”

A new stadium will surely add value to Inter and Milan, but this doesn’t mean club owner Gerry Cardinale will try to sell the Rossoneri once the new arena is complete or under construction.

Scaroni insists Cardinale doesn’t want to sell Milan

“There’s no connection between the construction of the new stadium and any real estate speculation or the sale of the clubs,” Scaroni insisted.

“Of course, we want the new stadium because it will create value for Milan and Inter and make them the most competitive in Europe. RedBird and Gerry Cardinale are driven by a passion for sports, and the acquisition of Milan has been their most significant investment since the beginning. Cardinale wants to remain the owner of Milan for a long time, and then the stadium is a key piece of the project to strengthen Milan as a sports institution and a modern, solid and ambitious company. I’m sure it will make him even more passionate about Milan and Italy.”

Milan and Inter received the green light to buy the San Siro area earlier this week, and construction works are expected to begin in 2027, while the majority of the Stadio Meazza will be demolished.
