Adam Doueihi learns his fate as NRL star provides explanation for offensive social media post aimed at Premier League’s LGBTQ+ inclusion campaign

Wests Tigers have decided not to sanction Adam Doueihi after the five-eighth explained his reasoning behind his offensive social media post. 

Doueihi spoke to the club after he responded to a Premier League statement on social media on ‘How to speak about LGBTQ+ inclusion’, as part of the football competition’s Rainbow Laces campaign. 

The post suggested fans can help by being an ally and talk about inclusion in positive terms.

But Doeuihi was unimpressed by the statement and commented ’embarrassing post’ underneath, which gathered thousands of likes before being deleted.

The Tigers issued a ‘please explain’ to their five-eighth, who said he felt the post was ’embarrassing’ because it was ‘dictating what people could say’.

He said he deleted the post because he did not realise it came across as homophobic.

As a result, the Tigers have opted not to sanction a ‘remorseful’ Doueihi.

‘It wasn’t Adam’s intention to hurt anyone. We’ve spoken to him and no further action will be taken,’ the club said.

‘The club is committed to being an inclusive place for all, we welcome people of all parts of society to be part of our club. Our mission statement as a club is to enrich lives of community and that we are all inclusive.’

Doueihi has been involved in gay rights controversies before. He previously supported a Sydney Catholic girls school after they decided to ban students bringing female dates to the Year 12 formal.
