Agent confirms Insigne close to Lazio: ‘Almost there’ – latest

Andrea D’Amico, agent of Lorenzo Insigne, confirms that the Italian winger is close to joining Lazio: ‘We’re almost there.’

Euro 2020 winner Insigne, a former Napoli star, could join Lazio in the coming weeks as his agent confirmed in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We’re almost there, but I am not giving you any scoops,” D’Amico said via SOS Fanta.

“Lazio like Insigne because of his skill set, but the problem is that the club’s transfer market is blocked. We’ll see what happens. It’s something we’ve been working on for a while, and there are other situations in the mix as well.”

Insigne has been without a club since last July, when he terminated his contract with Toronto FC. The experienced winger already played under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, scoring 47 goals in 139 appearances with the Italian tactician in charge of the Partenopei.

Whether Insigne will ultimately complete a free transfer to Lazio depends on whether the Biancocelesti will manage to lift a transfer embargo they have been subjected to since last summer due to financial issues.

“You have to respect the clubs; if you talk about transfers too early, it’s easy for things to fall through,” the Italian agent continued.

“Insigne deserves to play at a high level. Everyone hopes to sign young players to sell them again after a few years and make a profit. But even a 34-year-old player is useful to optimise and enhance the value of the players who are already in the squad.”

Football Italia already reported earlier this month that Insigne has been waiting for a reunion with Sarri since July and recently rejected two offers from other clubs as he’s keen to play under the Italian tactician again.
