Niklas Süle will not end his career prematurely this summer, his agent Volker Struth explained on BILD’s podcast ‘Phrasenmäher’.

“Let’s not kid ourselves, especially last year, things have been a bit bumpy. I think he’s made it his mission to really enjoy playing football again and not end his career like this,” he said.

Süle, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, but rarely managed to replicate his performances with multiple injury setbacks.

“Niki has long had a reputation for not being the most exemplary professional. For me, he is still the best German center-back in terms of this aspect,” Struth added.

This season, Süle has only started seven competitive matches. It’s already been confirmed that he will leave BVB in summer with the club unprepared to extend his contract.

Elsewhere in the club, Dortmund and Julian Brandt (29) are in the final stages of contract negotiations, according to the Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper on Tuesday, 3 March.

“To be honest, I’m taking my time. But this won’t be an issue until June or July. That’s not my style. But it’s a fundamental decision and it needs to be well thought out,” Brandt said in February.

Regardless, the 29-year-old looks set to extend his stay at the Westphalians. So far this campaign he has provided 10 goals and 4 assists in 31 games across all competitions.

Besides injured captain Emre Can, who recently suffered a cruciate ligament tear, Brandt is the second player whose expiring contract is expected to be extended.
