The 2024 European Championship takes place in less than a year’s time and the qualification process for the tournament is almost over.
Qualifying for Euro 2024 began back in March 2023 for the 53 countries attempting to seal their spot in the 17th edition of the competition.
The final matchday of the regular qualification will take place between 19-21 November, with 20 countries qualifying by virtue of finishing in the top two positions in the 10 groups.

Which nations have qualified for Euro 2024?

So far, Germany, France, Portugal, Belgium, Scotland, Spain, Turkey, Austria, England, Hungary, Slovakia and Albania have officially qualified for Euro 2024.
Germany were the first nation to seal their place in the tournament due to the fact they are the hosts of the competition.
As a result, they have not been required to take part in the qualification process as the hosts are always granted a place in the tournament.
France, Portugal and Belgium joined them in securing qualification on October 13, 2023. France beat the Netherlands 2-1 to pick up their sixth win in sixth qualifying games, while Portugal survived a late scare to narrowly edge to a 3-2 victory over Slovakia thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo brace.
France’s talisman Kylian Mbappe also netted two during their win against Netherlands.
Like Portugal, Belgium also sealed their place at the 2024 European Championships with a 3-2 win. Goals from Dodi Lukebakio (x2) and Romelu Lukaku saw Belgium go 3-0 up before Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer almost spoiled the party.
Nevertheless, Belgium qualified for the tournament, despite Amadou Onana’s 78th-minute red card.
Scotland, Spain and Turkey then booked their place at Euro 2024 on October 15, 2023, followed by Austria on October 16.
The next day it was England’s turn to qualify as they got revenge for the Euro 2020 final by beating reigning champions Italy 3-1, thanks to a brace from Harry Kane and a strike from Marcus Rashford.
On November 16, Hungary and Slovakia joined the party in sealing qualification for Euro 2024. A 97th-minute equaliser sealed a 2-2 draw for Hungary against Bulgaria, which booked their place in Germany, while Slovakia beat Iceland 4-2.
Albania followed suit the next day after drawing 1-1 with Moldova. The Eagles thus qualified for only their second-ever Euros and second major tournament after the 2016 edition.
What are the Euro 2024 playoffs?
Twenty teams will qualify for the 2024 European Championship through the regular qualifiers, while Germany have already sealed their place by virtue of being hosts. As a result, there are three more spaces at the tournament up for grabs.
Those will be filled by three countries who qualify for Euro 2024 through the play-offs.
The countries that qualify for the play-offs will not have done so due to their performance in Euros qualifiers, however. Instead, they will be granted a play-off spot by virtue of their finishing position in the 2022-23 Nations League.
This is the official explanation of how the play-offs work, according to UEFA’s website:
“Twelve teams will be selected based on their performance in the 2022/23 Nations League – nominally the group winners of Leagues A, B and C, but if they have already qualified they will be replaced by the next best-ranked team in their league.
“The four play-off slots are allocated to each league from League C to League A in reverse alphabetical order.
“If fewer than four teams from one league enter the play-offs, the first available slot is allocated to the best-ranked group winner of League D, Estonia.
“Remaining slots are then allocated on the basis of the overall 2022/23 Nations League rankings, to the best-ranked teams that have not already qualified, subject to the restriction that group winners of Leagues A, B and C cannot be in a play-off path with teams from a higher league.”
When are the Euro 2024 playoffs?
The Euro 2024 play-offs will take place in March 2024. There will be six semi-finals on March 21 and three finals on March 24. The winners of those three finals will earn a spot at the tournament.

The UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament draw will take place on Saturday, 2 December 2023 at 18:00 CET.
Do the hosts qualify automatically for Euro 2024?
Yes. Germany, the hosts, have automatically qualified for Euro 2024.
Do the champions Italy qualify automatically for Euro 2024?
No. Italy, the reigning champions, don’t automatically qualify for Euro 2024. They must qualify for the tournament through the regular qualification process or through the play-offs.
