Alejandro Garnacho goal ruled out for one of the most bizarre offside calls you’ll see as unlucky Joshua Zirkzee suffers nightmare moment in Man United loss to Brighton

Alejandro Garnacho thought he had put Manchester United in front after slotting home a seamless forward move by the Red Devils to put them 2-1 up against Brighton.

But unfortunately Joshua Zirkzee found himself in the wrong place at the right time to get in the way of the shots trajectory and record one of the wildest offside calls ever witnessed in the Premier League

Erik ten Hags men broke on the counter with Bruno Fernandes giving the ball to United’s first half scorer Amad Diallo, who in turn drives up the pitch before returning the ball to his captain.

Fernandes then whips a ball across the the box, which misses Joshua Zirkzee but falls nicely for Garnacho who hits a whizzing ball towards goal.

The ball finds its way into the back of the net but to the dismay of Manchester United players and fans, VAR intervened to tell a different story. 

However Zirkzee who was found to get the final touch was in an offside position

Before Garnacho shot on goal found the back of the net, replays revealed that the ball hits off Zirkzee and deflects into the back of the net.

But the question was whether or not the Dutchman actually touched it before the ball went over the line. 

Upon slow motion replays, it was revealed that Zirkzee’s knee was not over the line by the slimmest of margins, meaning VAR adjudged him to be offside. 

The Premier League clarified the decision on their Match Centre ‘X’ account, writing: ‘Zirkzee’s goal was awarded on-field.

‘The VAR checked for a potential offside against Zirkzee and recommended that the goal was disallowed. [The referee] restarted play with a Brighton free-kick.’

Erik ten Hags men ended up losing the tie after Joao Pedro scored the game winner for Brighton in the 5th minute of added time to add further salt in the wounds.
