Alejandro Garnacho’s damning stats revealed from disastrous half led to him being hauled off – before replacement inspired Chelsea comeback

Alejandro Garnacho was hauled off after a shocking half for Chelsea against West Ham before his replacement inspired a brilliant comeback.

The Argentine winger lost possession a staggering 12 times and 56 percent of the Hammers‘ attacks came down his flank, to great effect.

The relegation-threatened side were 2-0 up at the break having stunning a much-changed Blues side and Garnacho was one of three players not to come out for the second 45 minutes.

Rosenior replaced him with Joao Pedro, who scored, while Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella came on for Jorel Hato and Benoit Badiashile

In the Sky Sports studio, Jamie Redknapp was damning in his verdict of Garnacho, who was also dribbled past once, and the performance in general – though they did turn it around in the second half.

He said: ‘I’ve never seen a team where one whole side of their team can’t function or do basics like run, pass or tackle.

‘It’s been a mis-match. West Ham have been so strong down that right-hand side.

‘Garnacho has been so poor. He’s so lacking in confidence. Hato as well.’

In the commentary box, Gary Neville repeatedly noted the success West Ham were having down Garnacho’s side.

He added: ‘Chelsea are on the ropes and there are widespread boos from around the ground, the home fans are not having this.

‘They are getting absolutely torn to shreds down this side, ripped apart. I am surprised Rosenior has not made a change.

‘It has been a tough 45 minutes for Chelsea, who have been so safe and negative.’

But Rosenior’s changes worked a treat, making Garnacho’s exit even more ignominious. Pedro was a menace and scored to make it 2-1 with a header back across goal.

And fellow replacement Cucurella nodded in the second from close range to make it 2-2 and set up a thrilling finale.

Enzo Fernandez then scored a dramatic late winner after Pedro was again crucial, cutting it back for the midfielder to slot home.
