Alisson hails ‘the BEST performance of my life’ after Liverpool goalkeeper’s record-breaking heroics inspire smash-and-grab win at PSG

Alisson has admitted his display at Parc des Princes may have been ‘the best performance of my life’ as the Brazilian heroics saved Liverpool in a tough game against Paris Saint-Germain.

Arne Slot has witnessed one of the most challenging games since taking over at Anfield despite a victory and 0-1 on the scoresheets.

Initially a substitute, Harvey Elliott gave the lead for his team-mates and awarded Liverpool with a complicated win in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

The clash started in the worst way possible after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia unleashed a left-foot thunderbolt without a chance to be saved by the Brazilian.

However, it was later called offside after a lengthy VAR check, followed by one of the most memorable goalkeeper displays in the European tournament’s history.

‘It was the best performance of my life I think, he was telling us how hard it would be and we had to be ready to suffer,’ said Alisson.

‘You know what is coming with the clips but we work hard, we gave away so many chances.

‘Some one-versus-one (situations) but the biggest part is having someone to make the player who is having the chance to think more so it makes my job easier, all the effort the team puts in, it is unbelievable.’

Les Parisiens dominated from start to the final whistle, while Alisson was the only Liverpool player to keep the Reds’ hopes alive.

PSG had 27 shots, with 10 on target, but still failed to find the back of the net due to the Brazilians’ nine saves in total.

While Alisson recorded his best-ever number in the red shirt since his arrival in 2018, Opta states his display was the record of any Liverpool goalkeeper in a Champions League game since 2003.

‘I have no words. This guy is unbelievable,’ said another man of the match, Harvey Elliott. ‘The best in the world and each and every game he shows it.’

‘Tonight was my opportunity to repay him, without him i don’t know where we would be.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool managed to record only two shots in total, while their only strike on target finished with Elliott’s goal in the 87th minute.

The Brazilian’s nine saves against PSG on Tuesday were the most in any of his match for the club since his arrival in 2018

However, Arne Slot’s men have managed to record just two shots throughout the entire game

Meanwhile, Giorgi Mamardashvili – who will arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2025 – endures a disappointing season with Valencia 

His winner came just moments after the Englishman substituted Mohamed Salah, who also had a challenging game as the whole team.

In Cody Gakpo’s absence, who suffered a knock in training, Darwin Nunez appeared in the second half to deliver the decisive assist to Elliott’s goal.

After the final whistle, Arne Slot was full of praise towards Alisson and said: ‘I don’t think I have worked with a goalkeeper at this level, but it is normal as he’s the best in the world.

‘I have never had the best goalkeeper in the world but that he is. To go away with a win over here was a bit more than we deserved.’

One man who may not have enjoyed watching Alisson’s incredible performance is Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is set to arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2025.

The Reds completed his signing in 2024, following his stunning display at Euro 2024 for Georgia, but decided to leave the 24-year-old in Valencia for another season.

So far, Mamardashvili’s current season has not gone well, as his team is sitting in the relegation zone of the LaLiga table, while he has conceded 38 goals in 22 matches.
