Werder Bremen coach Horst Steffen was naturally pleased after his team came back from a two-goal deficit with 10 men to draw 3-3 against Bayer Leverkusen.
Werder Bremen produced a remarkable comeback from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Bayer Leverkusen at the Weserstadion on Saturday, despite being reduced to ten men following Niklas Stark’s 63rd-minute sending off.
The Green-Whites’ coach, Horst Steffen, was proud of the fighting mentality his team showed.
“If we play against Leverkusen and get a point, that’s good,” Steffen told Sky after the game.
“When you spend a long time a man down and are 1-3 behind, then this is just an amazing result that the lads earned themselves.”
Steffen described his team’s overall performance as “strong” and highlighted the mental boost the 3-3 draw could provide.
“We felt we could still make it. We kept pushing until the end. It was good that the lads had that belief, even though many things in recent weeks didn’t go as they usually do. That shows the strength of the boys and can give them confidence moving forward.”
