Ruben Amorim is reportedly already making plans for his first bit of transfer business as Manchester United manager in a deal that could have significant implications on a Premier League rival.
Amorim is set to formally take over at Old Trafford next week and the Sporting boss has not wasted any time in trying to make his mark on United ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Portuguese outlet Correito da Manha report that United are looking to act quickly and take up their buy-back option on left-back Alvaro Carreras after his impressive start to life at Benfica.

The 21-year old joined Benfica from United for €6 million in the summer after spending the second half of last season on loan with the Portuguese giants.
Carreras signed for United in 2020 from Real Madrid but failed to make any senior appearances for the club, prompting his exit to Benfica, however a buy-back clause of €20m was inserted into the deal.
The interest in re-signing Carreras is said to be ‘real’, with United looking for a cut-price deal in order to beat Liverpool to his signing, who are considering activating a €50m release clause in his contract.
United looking to right old wrongs in January with Carreras transfer
No outfield player has played in more league minutes for Benfica than Carreras this season, with the Spaniard grabbing two goals and one assist from his ten appearances.
Carreras had previously spent time on loan at Preston and Granada before joining Benfica, while he had also been named United’s under-23 player of the year in 2022.
However, Carreras never featured for United’s first team and was sold despite the struggles for fit options at left-back under Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag’s successor Amorim is aware of Carreras’ ability and it is believed the new United boss sees the youngster as a perfect bargain solution to the lack of depth at left-back.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are back in training after long-term fitness issues but both players may take time to build up fitness and prove their reliability to Amorim, prompting United’s desire to strengthen at left-back in January.
