Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted that he is “not concerned” about the prospect of being sacked following the club’s 3-1 loss against Brentford on Saturday.

The Red Devils suffered a third defeat in six Premier League matches as the pressure amped up another notch on Amorim, who is being closely monitored by owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

On a difficult afternoon for Man Utd, they conceded twice early to fall 2-0 behind. Though Benjamin Sesko pulled one back with his first top-flight goal for the club, Bruno Fernandes saw a penalty saved as the Red Devils slumped to another loss.

After the match, Amorim insisted that he is not wasting his energy worrying about losing his job.

“I’m not concerned – it is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I’m here. I am never concerned about losing my job. I am not that kind of guy,” Amorim announced to the media.

United face a pivotal call over Amorim

The loss in London leaves Man Utd’s board with an important decision to make in the hours ahead.

Amorim was backed in the summer transfer market to the tune of €250 million in new signings, and with these players handpicked for his 3-4-3 system, it would be a big call to sack him so early in the season. Erik ten Hag, for example, was given until October before he lost his job last season.

The cost of sacking Amorim is also significant.

He still has two years left to run on his deal, with expires in 2027. Given that he is paid an estimated €7m per season, it is likely to cost Man Utd around €14m to sack him.

The Sun has previously reported that there would be an additional cost for United to totally clear the decks. At the time the report was made, it was suggested that €24m was the figure to remove Amorim’s backroom staff.
