Manchester United will enter a new era on Sunday when Ruben Amorim leads the first team for the first time against Ipswich.

United hope to sweep away the negativity of the Erik ten Hag era under the Portuguese, and that means opportunities being afforded to players who might otherwise have been peripheral.

For Mason Mount, in particular, the appointment of Amorim at Old Trafford appears to have been a major boost, with the new head coach singing the praises of the Chelsea star.

The new manager says that Mount is “perfect” for his new system.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid. You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me,” he told the media.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.

“He played in this system [before], so it’s perfect for him. I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy!”

Mason Mount: A year of misery at Man Utd

Mount promises a great deal when he arrived at Manchester United from Chelsea last summer for €64 million.

It was a lavish fee, yet the England midfielder had an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €61.5m so did not seem out of sync in comparison to his worth.

Nevertheless, Mount has battled injuries and has struggled to make any kind of impression to justify such a high price, particularly as he only had one year left on his Chelsea contract.

His ETV has subsequently fallen to €28.1m, reflecting how difficult he found life under Ten Hag.

Mount, almost more than any other Man Utd player, has much to gain with Amorim’s arrival, and this high praise is a positive start.
