Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller has announced that the club will not renew his contract and that he will, therefore, depart the Allianz Arena in the summer.
Muller has become an iconic figure with the Bavarian side, where he has spent his whole career since making his debut in 2008.
He is closing in on 500 Bundesliga appearances with FCB, where he has won every major honour available, including two Champions League crowns. With Germany, meanwhile, he was a member of the squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Muller’s chapter with Bayern is over, with the 35-year-old announcing that the club were not prepared to offer him a new contract. He will therefore leave as a free agent in the summer.
The club has deliberately decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season

Writing on social media, he said: “I would like to take the opportunity to provide clarity. Even after all these years, regardless of my playing minutes, I still have a lot of fun standing on the pitch with the boys and fighting together for titles for Bayern.
“However, the club has deliberately decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season. Even if this did not meet my personal wishes, it is important that the club follows its convictions. I respect this step, which the Board and Supervisory Board certainly didn’t take lightly.”
Muller also spoke about his frustration at the way the news was leaked out in the media, hinting towards some ill-feeling towards Bayern, which has been reported in the press in recent weeks.
Muller jets towards MLS
Muller clearly still has an appetite to play regular football and is destined to try one last adventure in his career, with the Germany forward destined for MLS.
Bayern are pushing him towards LAFC, their partner club in the US. However, the fractured way in which their relationship with the attacker broke down means that he may be unwilling to accept their wishes, Bild reports.
And there is interest in Muller elsewhere in MLS, with FC Cincinnati and San Diego FC, who have missed out on Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, other possible destinations.
